Thursday, September 8 is International Literacy Day. Join STAR Literacy at the St. Albert Public Library to celebrate. In 2016, we would like to hear your stories. As part of International Literacy Day awareness, we are working to ensure local successes are part of the literacy and learning stories our communities hear. Albertans have come from other countries and other regions to make their homes here. Many Albertans experience frustration or fear in learning but have not returned as adults to strengthen their skills. Those who have not experienced such a journey themselves have often seen the effort and courage needed by a family member or friend as they return to learning. And then saw the many ways in which learning successes brings confidence and empowerment.
STAR Literacy and the Literacy Works Committee has created postcards asking people to tell us about their own literacy successes or someone they know. The postcards will be at the library tomorrow, September 8 and for the remainder of the month. Please take a moment to fill out a postcard and tell us about your successes.
